This is a classic example of what can happen with shoe laces when riding a motorcycle. This isn't to say you can't or shouldn't wear laced shoes, but you might want to take some precautions. Going to put your foot down only for it to get hung up is not a good feeling. This same principle applies for any object that dangles that can get tangled up on your motorcycle.
Some laced shoes have a velcro cover that goes over the laces to prevent them from hanging. I've seen the creative way also, put a piece of duct tape across your shoe laces. Either way will prevent your laces from dangling. Another idea is to tuck your laces into your shoes. At least if they come loose they might not get tangled on anything. I also personally prefer to wear shoes that cover my ankle and are high enough that my pants go over them as to not expose any skin. Your legs are down by your exhaust and engine which get very hot. One touch of your skin on any hot surface of your motorcycle and you will wish you had your legs covered.
There are many different styles of shoes to choose from out there, you just need to decide which ones offer you the protection you need and work for you. Have fun, be safe.
