A question often asked by new riders.
Do I put down the left foot, right foot or both when I stop? That depends, are you 5:2 or 6:3? There are basic principals to motorcycling but sometimes you have to adapt to circumstances. A lot has to do with comfort. If you feel stable and comfortable with only one foot down then fine, if not then I wouldn't suggest doing it. As for which foot to put down, I recommend the left foot. Why? Because you still have control of your rear brake with your right foot up. Now this is where it get's tricky, what if my bike's shifter is on the right side and rear brake on the left? In this circumstance you may want to adapt.
Now you may not feel comfortable with only one foot down, fine, use both. Unfortunately for some shorter riders this isn't an option. This brings us into another article we did on lowering your motorcycle. An old lesson I learned early on is you have to give to get. The same holds true with lowering your bike, if you lower your bike to make it easier to reach the ground you give up ground clearance for accessibility making it easier for the underneath of your bike to touch the ground. Bottoming a motorcycle out on speed bumps or other uneven ground can be dangerous and costly. Keep this in mind when lowering your bike and adjust how you ride it and be mindful of uneven roadways and obstacles.
