So you're thinking about doing a track day? Read this story about the pros and cons of it.
You're a new rider and you keep hearing, you should do a track day. Well we spoke to some fellow riders to get their opinions about doing track days.
As we have always stressed, the first thing you need to do before you even attempt to ride a motorcycle is to be familiar with it and the controls. Also know the capabilities and limitations of the motorcycle you are riding. Obviously you can't ride a cruiser the same way you ride a liter bike.
Now when the time comes to ride you should have on the proper gear to protect you in the event of a mistake or accident. That being said the gear you wear for street riding may not pass tech for track riding. This basically means there may be an additional cost for extra gear to participate plus the cost to enter.
Next your motorcycle should be in tip top shape. You should thoroughly go over your entire motorcycle to check for loose parts, oil leaks, worn tires and brakes, etc. The last thing anyone wants is for you to get hurt or hurt someone else with a machine that should have never been on the track.
When starting out remember you're not at the Isle of Mann so there is no rush or time limits. Start out at a speed that is comfortable to you and work your way up. Always remember the track is the track and the streets are the streets. A track is a controlled environment, the streets aren't. On a track you can push the limits of your motorcycle where the streets have set speed limits and rules of the road.
Conclusion. Should you do track days or not? The answer is it's totally up to you. Just make sure you know what you're getting into and that you are fully ready to do a track day. There is plenty of things to learn before even considering a track day so there is no rush.
