Read how this person handled being cutoff and their mindset about the incident.
Today was just like any other day. I was traveling the posted speed limit of 65 mph on the freeway when a white subcompact car quickly passed me in the left hand lane. Now there was nothing unusual about this because they were in the passing lane but shortly after passing me they cut in front of me sharply applying their brakes so that they could get off the exit to my right. I immediately applied the brakes vigorously to prevent rear ending them. Lucky for me it was my day and an accident was prevented. I wasn't upset with what that driver had done because I was thankful that it ended well.
Now this is a common story that we hear told many time by motorcyclist only I wasn't riding a motorcycle, I was driving a tractor trailer. Had I struck that vehicle serious injury was most likely to occur. I immediately thought, what were they thinking? Do they know what would happen if a 3000 lb. car was struck from behind by an 80,000 lb. tractor trailer? You see motorist aren't out to get motorcycles, they're just bad drivers. Hell they would cut off a passenger jet if they thought it meant they could get in front of it. This is just human nature and as a motorcyclist we have to accept it's just part of the game. It just seems more dramatic when we say a car cutoff a motorcycle because the likely hood of physical injury to a motorcyclist is greater but make no mistake it wasn't personal. Some of the same people who do this are motorcyclist but when behind the wheel of automobile they turn into a different person.
Today was a good day but tomorrow may bring a new and different challenge. Stay alert, ride just as much offensive as you do defensive and always improve on your skills.
