Overcome the fears of being a shorter rider.
1. When looking for a bike, try finding models with a lower seat height and a narrow seat. This will put your feet closer to the ground making you feel safer and more confident to ride. Some model bikes even have adjustable seat height.
2. Choose a motorcycle that is lighter in weight. It's easier to hold up a lighter bike if you're tippy toeing than it is to hold up a heavier one. Feeling that you are in control of your motorcycle will help you build your confidence.
3. Buy a seat which is lower in height. Keep in mind a lower seat may mean less padding. You can buy them or have the one you have customized at an upholstery shop.
4. Make suspension adjustments to lower your motorcycle. Keep in mind that lowering a motorcycle also means loosing ground clearance so care needs to be taken not to bottom out your motorcycle. Also these adjustments will make a difference in how your motorcycle handles. Lowering your motorcycle will also affect cornering clearance, shock compression, wheel travel and it may not handle as well. Lower-profile tires can also lower your motorcycle but will affect your overall gear ratio and may make your speedometer slightly inaccurate.
5. Thick or platform sole shoes can also give you a boost in height. Just make sure you still have feel for the rear brake and they don't interfere with the shift lever.
6. Mount your motorcycle from the left side, kickstand side, and when you stop always put your left foot down with your right foot on the peg or floor board with your rear brake. We do this because when your motorcycle is on it's side stand the left side is lower making it easier for you to mount. Having your right foot up gives you quicker access to your rear brake if needed.
As with anything you should practice in a controlled environment until you feel confident and safe hitting the streets. Also be mindful of where you're putting your foot down. Try avoiding gravel, loose dirt and uneven surfaces just to name a few. Have fun and be safe.
