You decide how safe your motorcycle is or isn't.
As a new motorcyclist, or even a seasoned rider, we all hear from people telling us the danger of motorcycling. Most of the time these people either don't ride a motorcycle or they had a bad experience with them and now their opinion is jaded. So why do people have the opinion that riding a motorcycle is a death sentence?
Simply put, motorcycling is as safe or dangerous as you make it most of the time. If you're fortunate enough to open your eyes in the morning you stand the risk of not seeing the next day. Motorcycling is just one of them. In order to understand motorcycling you have to have a love for it. But with that love also comes a respect you must have for it too. It's been proven that most motorcycle accidents were from rider error. That makes it simple, cut down on the errors, cut down on the possibility of something going wrong. You have way more control over your situation on a motorcycle than anyone else.
Sure there are those rare occasions when things are totally out of your control, but that's just life in general. People ride motorcycles because they enjoy them and if you enjoy something then you're happy and if you're happy you're living.
Don't obsess over the what if's, concentrate on the how to. How to prepare your bike, how to be a better rider, how to spot dangers beforehand, etc. So when you ride you be the captain of your ship and take control of your motorcycle. Be the example , not the statistic.
