There has been talk about how government is killing of motorcycling with their regulations. Is there any truth to that?
The short answer to this is no and here's why. Anyone who truly loves motorcycling isn't going to quit or not start to learn to ride because of a government regulation. I'm sure most of you are aware that the rules governing motorcycle riding vary from state to state. maybe even in different counties. Some laws are more restrictive than others but no one is quitting because of it. We see motorcyclist from all over gathering to Daytona and many other places that require the use of a helmet yet a good portion of those people come from places where the use of a helmet is not required. If those people who feel that government is killing motorcycling then they haven't been to any of these events.
Like with many rules and regulations we're sure they started out with good intent. Of course there is the argument from some that this is a common sense issue which should be left up to the riders. But as we all know common sense isn't so common these days. Until there are universal rules that apply to all motorcyclist this will continue to be a debate.
However to be fair there is no amount of safety gear that is going to prevent you from getting seriously injured or worse in a motorcycle accident but it can increase your rate of survival. The same goes for training. The more you know and apply the greater your odds are of coming out of an incident without harm. The choice is yours, make the right one.
A good helmet will protect your head and other gear will protect your hide, but there is no gear that will protect your bones. That being said, every rider knows there are risks and that does not stop us from riding. Why would a regulation stop us?
