Riding with the wrong people can make your ride miserable.
It's a beautiful day and you want to take the bike out for a ride but you don't want to ride alone. Some people like to ride alone, some like to ride in groups while others like to split their riding time. Whatever your choice, choose your riding buddies carefully.
In most instances sport bike riders tend to want to ride with sport bike riders as well as the cruiser crowd likes to be around other cruisers. One of the main reasons for this is riding style. Sport bike riders tend to ride more aggressively than cruiser and touring bike riders. But differences in motorcycles is only one of the issues.
Attitude plays a major role. If you're a calm, laid back individual you probably don't want to hang around a group of rowdy individuals. If you like riding you may not want to hang around a group of riders that like to bar hop. A word to the wise would be to feel out the group you are thinking about riding with first before you join them on a ride. Another thing is to always know where you're going. If you start out on the ride but find that you can't keep up or the group is driving more aggressively than what you like, let them go. You can catch up later. Many seasoned riders can give you stories of what it's like to ride with the wrong group of people. If you're a new rider you should consider bringing someone you trust with you or finding someone in the group whom you trust will not leave you even if the rest do. There's nothing like being abandoned by your group and not knowing what to do or being too afraid to do it.
In closing you may want to check with the group leader about any rules they may have when group riding. Some people like the new riders in front, some in the middle while others want the new riders in the back. Know before you go.
