We continue where we left off.
Confessions of a seasoned rider, part 2:
Confessions of a seasoned rider was so well taken that I was asked to follow up on it. Confessions of a seasoned rider is part me and a lot of other riders I have known over the years. I tell myself that the day I think I’m good is the day that I became a danger to myself and others because that means I was starting to let my guards down.
After the first confession I was thinking maybe it’s time to upgrade a few things. This is where the newbie comes in. They can tell me what the latest gear, apps, Bluetooth accessories, and every other accessory that I had no idea existed. You see as a seasoned rider, believe it or not, it’s much more difficult for me to learn than it is for a newbie. Yeah I know how to start the motorcycle and go for a ride but after many years of riding, not only did I gain experience, but I also ingrained bad habits and bad habits are easy to form but hard to break. I can be so set in my ways I will fight off any new change as a waste of money, time or as defeating the purpose of riding.
As a seasoned rider the first thing you need to do is forget everything you have learned about riding over the years so that you can relearn a better way. After you relearn riding, you can then apply the experience you had gained over the years to your new riding program. Hopefully this will make you a newbie with a lot of experience. What I have learned is that you will always be a new rider if you are willing to learn new things.
You see as a seasoned rider I also struggle with acronyms, or abbreviations of things I have been doing for many years. Things like ATGATT and FINE or SEE are beyond my comprehension. You might as well speak to me in Mandarin.
My jacket, gloves and boots have been with me for decades and now define me. I think that if I want a fresh start at relearning how to ride I first need to do a makeover. Well let’s take a trip to the store and start with a new wardrobe. This ought to be interesting as I will be seeking the help of a newbie for this. In the meantime have fun, be safe.
