Certified Instructor vs Stunt Riders

Make no mistake, a certified instructor and a stunt rider are not the same. Many riders can perform stunts and it takes certain skills to do it but that doesn't qualify for basic training. If you're dragging foot pegs or floor boards, STOP! There are three reasons you would find yourself in this situation as a typical street rider. 1. Your motorcycle is too low. 2. You came into a curve way too fast or you reacted way too late to the curve. 3. You're doing it intentionally. Unless you enjoy damaging your motorcycle and possibly endangering yourself don't do it.

Scraping a foot peg or floor board can unload your rear tire causing it to lose traction. This can cause your motorcycle to come out from underneath you. Another point worth mentioning is most foot pegs and floor boards are designed to collapse when they make contact with the ground in a turn. This also means your foot will be pushed up or back when they make contact. I've known people who have driven millions of miles over the decades and they have never touched the bottom of their foot peg or floor board.

As a rider it is more beneficial to learn safe riding habits than it is to learn stunt maneuvers. Maybe down the road you may want to learn these techniques but for the beginner it's something I would recommend staying away from.

Great advice! I hear this all the time about scraping pegs, foot boards ans even dragging a knee. These things might feel great however its setting yourself up for even the smallest mistake to cause you to go down.
