Are you a good rider or a lucky one?

The question every motorcyclist should honestly ask themselves.

If you do something long enough without any repercussions it could give you the false impression that you are a good at what you do when in reality you're just lucky. We constantly see so many riders relying on others to do what they themselves should be doing but fortunately for them good old luck steps in and saves them until it doesn't.

In the absence of luck knowledge prevails. That was a quote I came up with many years ago to describe the point where your luck runs out and then you have to rely on your knowledge. The goal of every rider should be to be better than they were the last ride. If you do that you will increase your skills which in return increases your luck. Being good and lucky increases your chances more than just being lucky.

A lot of this stems from over confidence which usually sets in after someone has been riding for a while. New riders tend to have a lack of confidence, which is understandable. Your confidence and skill should increase together. Being over confident can get you hurt but being over skilled won't. We are in control of our skills but we're not in control of luck.
