"Understanding the Risk: Do New Motorcyclists Face Higher Accident Rates?"

Updated: Jun 28

The facts don't support it.

Motorcycle accidents amongst new riders

Are new motorcycle riders at a higher risk of having an accident than more experienced motorcycle riders? I don't know but after looking at numerous statistics and data, we could find nothing that supported that new motorcycle riders were at a greater danger. From experience it appears new motorcycle riders make careless, newbie mistakes while experienced riders have more dangerous and deadly accidents.

According to the figures alcohol, speeding and carelessness played the biggest roles in motorcycle accidents and deaths. Why is that? We believe that once a motorcyclist gets past a certain point. they become relaxed and more careless. They start to do things that they wouldn't as a new motorcycle rider which explains why their accidents are worse. Basically if you could eliminate the core causes of motorcycle accidents, motorcycling would seem to be very safe.

We all hear the horror stories of motorcycling and see the crash scene images, but what is not usually emphasized at the time of the accident is the cause of the accident. That's why we emphasize building confidence, gaining skills and obeying the traffic laws. We are not going to tell you motorcycling isn't dangerous, but we will say you can greatly reduce the odds of getting into an accident or getting hurt if you just obey the laws and and build up your skills and confidence. Have fun, be safe.
