Hello, I’m Crystal and I have a motorcycle event happening in my province (Winnipeg, Manitoba. I saw you all in the news today and wanted to send an invite. I’m a physically disabled woman who loves motorcycles.. if I could have one, I would 😂 instead, I help my mom organize this event.
August is Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness month, this is the condition that I live with. It’s a form of Muscular Dystrophy which is a group of neuromuscular conditions that are caused by mutations in the genetic codes or changes in the autoimmune system. In turn, these conditions impact muscles and/or the nerves that connect to muscles. There are 140+ types of conditions that fall under the Muscular Dystrophy umbrella, you’ve probably heard of ALS. Yep! It’s a form of Muscular Dystrophy just like the form that I live with is. All proceeds that we make go directly to helping people like me afford anything medical that our government doesn’t cover (there’s a lot)
We take our community seriously, we have 400+ members that live with some form of Muscular Dystrophy. Rumbling The Road Motorcycle and Car Ride is a fundraiser that my mom puts on. I am one of the volunteers for Muscular Dystrophy Canada so I will be at the ride to kickoff the bikers and car guys!
This year we will remember our friends that we lost during the pandemic. It’s always difficult when we lose members of the Muscular Dystrophy Community. So this year, we ride in honor of Ray (senior), Hilly (senior), Trevor (middle aged)and Cameron (toddler) - there will be a video in honour of these very missed individuals at the beginning of the ride.
